I haven't made anything since I finished my 100 hours for my 10 year podficversary, but I've fallen face first into a couple new fandoms though I don't know if I'll be making anything for them. I've also made progress on writing (ok outlining) several Clone Wars fics and I plan to take part in the Order 63 fest with some podfic and a fic if I can get it done in time. :D

I'm also just extremely pissy right now between trying to post this on mobile (always a nightmare) and work giving less than 24 hours notice that a process that was supposed to go live last month with the rest of everything is actually going live. Which I discovered when trying to do my job before having a chance to check my email. Also I'm not sure if I'm hangry or just under caffinated and on too little sleep.

I think this year has been my most productive to date, and for a very specific reason. I've been attempting to make it to 100 hours of posted podfic on my 10th podficversary. And I made it! I didn't quite manage to get to 100 podfics (where I'm a primary/major voice) but I did manage to get to 100 ao3 works which still feels like a good round number.

I haven't been cross-posting here as much as I'd intended but I've been so wrapped up in just getting things done that posting in multiple places has just not been my top priority.

I definitely started podficcing before 2012 because I started by recording Stargate Atlantis rare(er) pairs for myself. I never finished any of those, but they were recorded on the tiny mp3 player/recorder with that I had to record lectures back in 2010/2011 or so. I think the very first thing I recorded was the prologue to Good Omens. Since then I've recorded on three different phones, a Blue Snowball, and now a Blue Yeti. I've recorded in at least 7 locations, not counting things I recorded while visiting other people/at cons. I've also done editing on three different laptops and a PC.

Looking forward I think I'm going to try and get all of my podfics moved to a different hosting, finally figure out my streaming problem, and crosspost everything to the revived audiofic archive. I also have a couple Very Big projects that I've been eyeing up and may start later this summer.

I finally got myself in gear and made an appointment to see a doctor. Who was actually pretty ok?

Fannishly I've got a lot of things going on right now. I've set myself a goal of 100 hours podficced across 100 works for my 10th podficversary. At the start of the year I had just under 87 hours and 69 works (nice). I have a spreadsheet for most of the podfics I'm planning to record for this. And since it's a lot of quick turnaround stuff, I'm focusing on blanket permission works. I've currently got 4 open slots and I'm pondering what to include. I'm trying to be more deliberate in what I'm focusing my fannish energies on these days so that's a factor in my decision making process. That and length. I can't go over 100 too early since I want to hit 100 hours on the 100th work posted on my 10th podficversary.

In addition to all that I've got a couple of actual fics planned this year, both in Star Wars because that's been eating my brain lately. One's supposedly a romcom, but currently has about 200 years of historical timeline changes for the AU to make any sense. I 100% intend to put the timeline as well as a bunch of stuff the main fic won't have room for over here since there's too much work going into this for me not to share it. The other is yet another What If No Order 66 clone wars fic, specifically looking at the rebuilding process and grief and all the unglamorous moving parts of reconstruction and recovery. There's gonna be a lot of philosophy, non-temple Jedi, Obi-Wan and Cody learning to slow the fuck down and take a break, and maybe even some of the non-Jedi force traditions popping up. Because I just realized that Baze and Chirrut are just a few (4 and 5) years younger than Obi-Wan and now I'm just imagining the chaos of that interaction. Also I love them. They're the best.

I also have like 20 hours of podfic planned for after the podficversary stuff. But that's across like 7 fics so it's fine. Some I could probably even save for ITPE, just drop a 5 hour treat on someone lmao. I should bug one of the authors for permission, I think most everything else on the list is blanket permission. (Regular reminder author friends: if you want to make a podficcer's life easy, consider adding a permission statement to your ao3 profile. It doesn't need to be a blanket yes, it can even be a blanket no! We just want to know. And if you want us to ask first, please say how and where you want to be contacted.)

A much larger project will be organizing my hosting file structure so it's easier for me to find my links, updating all my posts, and also figuring out why streaming is broken for me. I've got a vague idea, but I need to actually do something about it. I'd also like to cross-post everything to here that hasn't been as well as maybe to amplificathon since it looks like that's going to start existing again. I do want my works to not be solely on ao3.

Wahey, two posts in a year that aren't ITPE related? Work continues as usual and I've finally made myself take the concrete steps towards getting my full certification. You know, the steps I've been telling myself to take for at least three years now?

So, I've finally applied to a per diem generalist job. And I'll be idly looking at other generalist positions until I find one that a) isn't nights because I'm not going back to that again and b) will actually tick off all the boxes I need to qualify for the exam on work experience. Doing this per diem will take forever but I'm hoping that it'll be a good start and let me do a fair amount of review/studying to get myself back up to speed and remember what all the weird cells look like and what the crystals look like again. Nevermind micro and the plate choices/antibiotic testing. I'm also hoping that being per diem will mean if they have a full time opening I'll already have a foot in the door and can jump in as FT or 0.8 and stay on per diem at my current job. Because I like everyone there, I just really really need to get my certification so I can have some real flexibility in where I can work.

As it stands, within the city most labs require the full MT/MLS certification rather than my MLT and separate bachelor's degree. I can take the MLS exam, but I need to prove a certain amount of time spent in different departments and being considered competent at specific tasks. UNFORTUNATELY, a lot of labs don't perform all of these tasks and send at least some of them to a reference lab. (One of my former coworkers had an opening at his lab and I was interested until I learned they don't do any of the micro testing in-house, not even the really quick and easy stuff. Which, wild.)

(ETA: I also keep wondering how much I would hate my life and could I stand it for 2 years if I took a job with lab corp?)

I'm also channeling a lot of my general anxiety about the future into looking at real estate and finding houses that I would happily live in and then making myself sad because they won't be available when we do finally manage to buy a house some time next year. My mom keeps trying to get us to "take advantage of interest rates" because everything's so low with the pandemic right now. But like, we're not actually ready to buy anything right now and want to have the flexibility to be picky. Because once we move, we don't want to go anywhere for a WHILE. So, I just keep making myself sad that I can't do anything like paint or set up a kitchen the way I want it or garden or anything.

In the wake of Tumblr making the site even more user unfriendly, I see we're all brushing dust off of our accounts here. I know I've been absent except for the annual ITPE letter. We'll see how long most of us stick around (myself included) but I'm hoping that pinning DW's tab will help. Plus it does actually look better on mobile than it did the last time I tried with any real effort.

These days I'm mostly on twitter under the same handle as here and have fallen face-first into yet another RPF fandom, this time Buzzfeed (specifically, Worth It but I'm reading in Unsolved as well). I'm also in some small(ish) book fandoms: Queen's Thief, Goblin Emperor, Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell, Rivers of London, and I still idly poke at the Temeraire tag hoping some good Tharkay fic will fall out. I've been watching Critical Role campaign 2 but I'm notoriously bad at being up to date (currently 3 episodes behind) and not sure if I'm willing to be fic-invested in a canon where so much can change so quickly. I may start reading transcripts/listening to campaign 1, for both the fic and the closed canon but I have no idea when or if I'll find the time in the near future.

I've got an alarming number of Worth It fics on the docket these days plus an unreasonable number of podfics for them on the to-record list that's just waiting for my ITPE pods to be turned in.

Hopefully I'll get around to updating my master list some time in the next week. But if I don't, it's because ITPE has consumed my soul and all my free time and I'll try and get around to doing it some time before the end of the year.
